Dorit H. Aaron


          Dorit H Aaron, OTR, MA, CHT, FAOTA, and Barbara Winthrop, OTR, MA, CHT, FAOTA are Occupational Therapists and Certified Hand Therapists, who operate a private consulting practice, Aaron & Winthrop Hand Therapy Services, Inc. that includes hand therapy evaluation, clinic administration/organization, education, and ergonomics.

As leaders in their profession, both Dorit and Barbara were elected to the Board of Directors of the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT). Dorit served as the 2012 President and Barbara served as the 2016 president.  Dorit and Barbara co-chaired the combined Annual Meeting of the American Society of Surgery of the Hand and the American Society of Hand Therapists in 2005. Barbara was appointed by the American Society of Hand Therapists to be their Representative to the United States Department of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health for the National Occupational Research Agenda for Musculoskeletal Disorders-- NIOSH NORA. 


Both Dorit and Barbara serve on the Board of Directors of the American Hand Therapy Foundation. They have also served as Item Writers for the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC). Dorit served on HTCC item writing and international committees. 

Dorit and Barbara have been recipients of numerous professional awards. Both have individually been named Texas Occupational Therapist of the Year and been given the Texas Roster of Merit Award by the Texas Occupational Therapy Association. Dorit received the prestigious Paul Brand Award from the American Society of Hand Therapists. The American Occupational Therapy Association named Barbara the recipient of the distinguished Lindy Boggs Award for her work advancing the practice of Occupational Therapy. Both therapists have also received the prestigious designation of Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association, FAOTA. Additionally, they both received the  Best Clinical Paper Award for the American Society of Hand Therapists Annual Meeting's Scientific Session. Dorit was named Distinguished Alumni from

UTMB and presented with the Lillian Parent Lectureship Award. 



 In the area of professional education and innovation, Dorit and Barbara have lectured extensively in the area of hand therapy on the local, state, national, and international level. They co-developed and co-coordinated the Texas Woman's University Hand Therapy Fellowship, a certificate program in the graduate school. Dorit developed the Functional Dexterity Test - FDT whose proceeds are all donated to the AHTF.  Both Barbara and Dorit have published research in the peer reviewed journals. Both Barbara and Dorit volunteer their time to Shrine Hospital for Children, Aproquen Children's Burn Unit in Nicaragua, and with other medical missions to third world countries. They also serve on the Board of Directors of several non-profit community organizations.
